The Miami Heat have dropped forward Jimmy Butler for Wednesday night's game against the Trail Blazers in Portland.
Butler hurt his right ankle in the third quarter of Monday night's 115-108 loss to the Golden State Warriors. The Heat didn't provide any updates on Tuesday other than what he called out against the Blazers.
"He changed it," Heat coach Eric Spoelstra said after Monday night's loss. "If you talk to Jimmy now, he says he's fine.
"We'll have to evaluate that and see how he feels."
Butler was hurt when he went to put his right foot on a step, but appeared to be losing his leg as well. He fell to the floor while catching the ball and was in pain as play was stopped with 3 minutes, 14 seconds remaining in the quarter.
Miami took a timeout, and Butler had to be helped from the floor by two Heat members, as he was unable to put any weight on the ankle.
Butler has suffered a problem with his right ankle this season. He missed three games in November due to a sprain in his right ankle. And he twisted his right ankle on December 28 in a game against the Washington Wizards. He was dismissed in the December 29 game against the San Antonio Spurs which was eventually postponed.
Butler had 22 points and five rebounds before his latest ankle injury. The Heat star has lost 15 games this season to injuries. He missed four games from November 29 to December 4 due to a tailbone injury. He returned for one game and then hit his tailbone again, forcing him to play eight straight games in December.
