Lucas Ocampos' strike in the final minutes of the match gave second-placed Sevilla a 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid in LaLiga on Saturday.
In a pitched match between the two sides trying to stay in contention with league leaders Real Madrid, Sevilla came out on top.
They now have 37 points, putting them five behind Real, while Atleti fell to fifth place with 29 points, a jump from surprise outfit Rayo Vallecano, who beat Alves 2–0 earlier in the day and this season. remained unbeaten at home.
Ivan Rakitic gave Sevilla the lead early in the first half with a brilliant long-range strike that could be a contender for the goal of the season.
Felipe equalized from a corner, timed his jump and tapped his header in front of Sevilla goalkeeper Bono.
But just before stoppage time, after a Thomas Delaney header came off the crossbar, Ocampos reacted quickly to smash it into a shot.
"The objective now is to continue to enjoy ourselves." Rakitic told reporters. "Things are still to improve but this win against the league champions gives us a lot of strength. With the fans we have, we want to continue this wave."
It is the first time Atletico manager Diego Simeone has seen his team lose three consecutive league matches since joining the club in 2011.
Generally known for being strong in defence, the champion has scored 20 goals in 17 matches this season.
"It's time to work in silence and get better," Simeone told reporters after the match.
"We're going through some tough times and the results are reflecting that. But I trust my players, I know we'll get there together."
