Ludhiana court blast: Man killed might have been carrying the bomb, suspect cops

The deceased is the prime suspect of the blast, commissioner of police Gurpreet Bhullar said. 

Ludhiana Police Commissioner Gurpreet Bhullar said that the blast in the Ludhiana district court premises on Thursday at around 12.25 pm could have been carried out by a human bomb. Bhullar said, "Though not confirmed, the person whose body is inside and his identity is yet to be ascertained, he was either carrying the bomb or was very close to it, we are probing." The police have not picked up the body and are waiting for the bomb disposal squad of the NSG to probe the connection between the man and the mysterious blast that took place near the washroom on the second floor of the district court complex in Ludhiana. The CP said that the deceased is the prime suspect in the blast.

Police have confirmed one death in the blast, though initially two people were reported dead from the spot. The pre-poll incident created a stir when Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi blamed anti-national elements behind the blast.

"Saddened by the news of the blast in the Ludhiana Court Complex. I am reaching the blast site soon and I assure the people of the state that the culprits will not be spared. Anyone trying to disturb the peace and harmony of the state Person will be taken. To act," Channi tweeted.

SAD leader advocate Harish Rai Dhanda, who will be contesting the upcoming assembly elections, claimed that he was the target of the attack. Accusing MLA Simarjit Singh Bains of being the mastermind of the attack, Harish Rai Dhanda said his chamber was barely 50 feet away from the blast site and he escaped the blast within minutes as he was in his chamber just before the blast. had left.

Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said he was saddened to learn about the deaths in the blast. Amarinder Singh tweeted, "Disturbing news of the blast in Ludhiana Court Complex. Sad to learn about the death of two people. Praying for the recovery of the injured. Punjab Police must get to the bottom of it."

Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal tweeted, "Shocked by the news of blast in Ludhiana district court, where two people lost their lives and many were injured. May Guru Sahib rest the departed soul and give speedy recovery to the injured." The Punjab government should focus on law and order rather than political vendetta to ensure peace and communal harmony in the state.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also condemned the incident and said, "First sacrilege, now blast. Some people want to disturb the peace of Punjab. Three crore people of Punjab will not allow their plans to succeed.
