Harbhajan Singh says he will serve Punjab, 'maybe via politics'

Harbhajan announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Friday. No decision has been taken yet on joining any political party, he said, though he is not averse to the idea of joining politics.

Dismissing speculations that he would join the Congress ahead of Punjab polls soon after announcing his retirement from cricket, Harbhajan Singh on Saturday said he would announce it if he joins any party. As reported by news agency ANI, Harbhajan said, "I know politicians from every party... Will serve Punjab, maybe through politics or anything else. No decision has been taken yet." Speculation intensified after Harbhajan recently met Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, a picture of which was tweeted by Sidhu. Sidhu had written, "A picture full of possibilities... with the shining star of Bhajji."

A few days before Sidhu and Harbhajan met, it was reported that BJP is trying to bring Harbhajan to Punjab. Harbhajan called these news fake news.

On Friday, as he announced the end of his cricketing career, he said that he is not against indulging in politics but several factors should be taken into account before taking a decision. Harbhajan said, 'To be honest, I don't know what's in store for me. I'm just going to take a few days to figure out which direction I want to go. Yes, I want to give back to the society. Interview. "If I join politics, how and in what form, I need to find out those things, because the main objective is to help people, if I do anything," he said.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, the BJP was reportedly in talks with Harbhajan to field him from the Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency. At the time, the cricketer confirmed the conversation and said that he is not sure whether it is the right time for him to join politics.
