Fortnite is down, leaving players unable to log in

Fortnite players have been unable to log into the wildly successful battle royale game for hours.

According to Fortnite's official Status Twitter account, the company is "investigating log-in, matchmaking and other issues". A later tweet said that "game servers are currently offline while we investigate fixes for stability issues."

Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite, is also facing difficulties with its extensive gaming library. In a tweet posted Wednesday by the Epic Games Store account, users were told that Epic is "investigating issues with downloading, installing and launching games in your library."

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney made headlines in a public fight against fees that companies like Apple and Google collect when users make in-app purchases. In 2020, Fortnite was removed from Apple's App Store to allow users to purchase in-game currency directly from Epic, bypassing Apple's fees and following the company's policy around in-app purchases. may be violated. Epic Games soon sued Apple and, in a high-profile court case, the two companies cut into Apple's in-app transactions and whether the iPhone maker is a monopoly.

Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, who presided over the case, sided with Apple on most of the lawsuit's claims in September, though she agreed with Epic on one point. Apple can't stop app developers from telling users about payment options outside of the App Store. Epic appealed the decision after the announcement, and Fortnite is yet to return to the App Store.
