Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Sucha Singh on Thursday joined the Shiromani Akali Dal ahead of the Chhotepur assembly elections in Punjab.
Mr Chhotepur, who was AAP's Punjab convener, was ousted in 2016, following which he floated his own political outfit- Apna Punjab Party.
Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal announced that Mr. Chhotepur has been appointed as the senior vice president of the party and will also be the party's candidate for the Batala assembly seat.
“Chhotepur Sahib has always been a champion of Punjabi pride and has tried his best to expose the conspiracies of outsiders to divide the people of the state on communal lines. I am deeply satisfied today that the advocate of unity of all Punjabis returns home when I am the main sevadar of the party,” said Mr. Badal.
Shri Chhotepur said that Punjab's unique cultural identity as well as the future of peace, progress and prosperity is in danger of being hijacked by a vicious three-pronged attack by non-Punjabi invaders, which include Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party and Bharatiya Janata Party. You. "The trio not only want to usurp the fate of Punjab by creating division, hatred and misunderstanding between the two brother communities, Hindus and Sikhs, but also engineering a civil war within the Sikhs," he said.
Taking a jibe at AAP supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Mr Chhotepur said the latter was only interested in becoming the chief minister himself.
“That is why he sits on stage with Bhagwant Mann and Harpal Cheema and says that the party is looking for a capable person. Kejriwal used to hate Punjab and Punjabis from the bottom of his heart and takes contempt and humiliation on every Punjabi leader in AAP who tries to raise his voice in favor of the state,” alleged Mr Chhotepur.
