Chelsea advanced to the Carabao Cup final in their quarterfinal on Tuesday with a 2-0 win over Brentford at the Community Stadium, thanks to their own goal from Pontus Johnson and a Jorginho penalty.
Thomas Tuchel, whose side came into this match on the back of just one win in their last five matches in all competitions, opted for a much changed lineup with several young players in the XI following a minor COVID outbreak at the club. ,
He will next face former Tottenham Hotspur and Blues boss Antonio Conte in the two-legged semi-final starting January 3.
After a brilliant opening, Chelsea's dominance began as the first half was built without any real chances.
Chelsea debutante Harvey Vale could open the scoring with a header, while stand-in goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga made several fine defenses to keep Brentford at bay.
Tuchel introduced Christian Pulisic and Jorginho at half time with Reece James, Mason Mount and N'Golo Kante coming through during the second period as Chelsea went in search of a goal.
And it came with 10 minutes remaining as Jensen cut James's cross into his own net to give Chelsea the win.
Five minutes later, after beating Brentford goalkeeper Alvaro Fernández's Pulisic, Jorginho secured the result as he went home from the penalty spot.
Tuchel has a chance to fight for his third major trophy at Chelsea after his Champions League and UEFA Super Cup victories.
"It was a great result, given the circumstances, the line-up and the position," Tuchel said. "Some of the players who played were young and others didn't have many minutes, but they hit a tough spot."
