Rapper DaBaby was on a NC property when a man was shot for trespassing, police say

The Troutman Police Department said rapper Dabi was at a home in North Carolina on Wednesday when a man was shot.

According to an incident report from the police department, a 26-year-old man allegedly climbed over the fence around the property and was shot. No charges were filed in the shootings as of Thursday night.

According to CNN-affiliated WSOC, the man was shot on a football field outside a mansion belonging to DaBaby, whose real name is Jonathan Kirk. Although police would not confirm to CNN that Dobby is the owner of the house, they said he was present at the time of the shooting. Troutman Police did not release the name of the shooter.

"I can confirm that the shooting did not take place inside the residence and that Mr. Kirk was on the property," Police Chief Josh Watson told CNN in an email. Watson said the investigation is in an "ongoing state" and he was not able to provide further details.

At around 8 p.m. ET, police arrived at the residence and found a man suffering from non-fatal gunshot wounds, TPD said in a statement.

The victim was taken to a medical facility by Iredale County EMS to be treated for his injury, the statement said.

A manager for the rapper declined to comment on Thursday.

The eight-time Grammy-nominated rapper is a native of North Carolina.

DaBaby made headlines last summer when she made false and derogatory comments about gay men and HIV during a demonstration in Miami. The comments were quickly condemned by fans, LGBTQ+ groups and other celebrities including Elton John, Dua Lipa and Madonna, and Dabi later apologized.

The city of Troutman is located approximately 35 miles north of Charlotte.
