Miami Heat close in on No. 1 seed in East but season is no success – yet

1 seed in the Eastern Conference for the Miami Heat. This can be achieved in a number of ways, but winning just one of your last two matches against the Atlanta Hawks or Orlando Magic will also get the job done.

At this point, it would be surprising if the Heat didn't enter the NBA playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the East standings. Considering that prior to the season, not many had even a heat finish as a top 4 seed in the conference, this is a huge win for the team overall.

However, the Heat isn't just about appreciating the regular season. It's never been. Particularly for this core group, this season will not be successful until they are able to produce during the playoffs.

The Heat by Kyle Lowry, P.J. Tucker, and Markiff Morris notably won 50 games during the regular season. He loaded up his roster to score a deep playoff run and eventually returned to the NBA Finals.

Winning the No. 1 seed is the first step in doing so. It will also give them the best chance of accomplishing it. Miami were one of the league's best home teams this season (28–12) and will host every playoff series until the finals.

After a four-game stretch with a public argument between Jimmy Butler and head coach Eric Spoelstra two weeks ago, the Heat responded in a big way and they are currently on a five-game winning streak.

The heat seemed to have turned a corner at the right time. To enter the playoffs, the Heat would have to play at a high enough level to score a deep run—especially if they drew a team like the Brooklyn Nets in the first round.

Winning No. 1, who is on the verge of heating up, is a great first step. But it is far from a successful season for Miami so far. He still has a lot of work to do.
