YouTuber Kaiti Yo is going to Coachella, and she wants to bring you along for the ride—literally, at least.
Yu spoke with Newsweek about starting her own fashion-friendly YouTube channel, heading to Coachella in partnership with YouTube and the popular music festival she's most excited about.
"I think it all started with a dance party. In my room. All alone," Yu explained, "in my personal opinion, boredom (or stress or fatigue… any bad human emotion, really) ) is the best antidote to a solo dance party. Over the years, I've developed a well-crafted ritual that works like clockwork: Hit the lights, crank up the music, dress up some silly Wear it, and go totally bonkers. I always feel on top of the world afterward."
During the pandemic - or "Panini Press" as she calls it - she started a fashion-inspired YouTube channel where she documents her wacky dance parties and costume choices through YouTube shorts. She calls her channel "the best accidental decision of my life" — and how! She currently has over 500,000 subscribers who are excited to see what she does next.
“Associating with YouTube this year, we’re taking the solo dress-up dance party against the backdrop of the world’s most fashionable music festival. That way, viewers can get the best of both worlds, even from the comfort of their own rooms. ," He said. "I'm so grateful to YouTube for endlessly cheering me on for me and my audience," she said.
Despite being at work, Yu is still taking it all in as she goes to a concert, which she grew up watching through her favorite content creators.
"I'm still soaking myself in this full-circle moment," she said.
Coachella has two weekends. Weekend one starts on April 15, while the other weekend starts on April 22. The concert is held in the desert in Indio, California. This year's headliners are Harry Styles, Billie Eilish and The Weeknd with the Swedish House Mafia.
When asked who he is most excited to see, Yu mentioned Doja Cat.
"She rose to fame so much on me with her witty humor and temperamental multi-faceted sound," she said.
But in the future, he hopes that K-pop superstar BTS will be coming to Coachella soon.
"As a Korean-American who has been a fan of his music since his debut in 2013, I will lose my voice screaming every song from the bottom of my heart," Yu said.
Since this is her first time at Coachella, she turned to her festival-loving friends for some advice.
"They swore to the holy trinity of water, water, and oh, more water. Please stay hydrated out there, guys," she said.
YouTube is running a contest where one lucky music lover will win a pair of VIP tickets to Coachella for a lifetime if they reveal who their dream Plus One will be - so it seems appropriate to ask U of her picks.
"My future secret husband, because then he will already have to show me and reveal himself," Yu replied.
"Babe, if you're reading this, I'm getting a little impatient," he joked.
