Neelam Kothari Soni has been one of the popular actresses of Bollywood in the 80s and early 90s. The actress successfully carved a niche for herself with her versatility and acting skills. While Neelam had a decent fan following, her decision to quit acting while being at the top of her game came as a surprise to everyone. During her recent interaction with Pinkvilla for Woman Up S3, Neelam opened up on her decision to quit acting.
Neelam insisted, “I think because I had solid support. I had, I came from a family that encouraged me to do whatever I wanted. Were they okay with me joining the movies? Not! But then once I decided to do it, I got their full 100 percent support. And then I always knew I had a fallback option if not movies then what? A woman has to be ready to do something- be it a housewife, a mother, a wife, or any work. You know how to be independent, I think that's very important. Now that I felt that the films that were coming my way were not like that... They weren't great propositions and I wasn't happy doing those films, so I decided; It was the hardest decision of my life where I said, 'Well you know what, I quit! I'm going to leave it when I'm on top, instead of just fading in'. It was a very difficult decision and the transition from an actress to an entrepreneurial jewelery designer was one of the most difficult transitions for me."
Apart from this, Neelam also spoke about how she has dealt with the bad times in her life and said that it is important to give yourself time to recover. "Going through a rough time... I think there is no one particular way or solution," he said. I think you have to give yourself time. You have to give yourself time to recover. It's so easy for people to say 'oh it's okay just forget about it and move on!' But I think it is very difficult. I think it hurts you more if you just try and forget about it and move on. I think you need to give yourself time to process and then move on. It could be a month, it could be a week, it could be anything. I think everyone has a different path,” she said.
