Tim Considine, actor who played eldest son on ‘My Three Sons’ sitcom, dies at 81

LOS ANGELES - Tim Considine, who played eldest son Mike in the 1960s TV sitcom "My Three Sons," has died. He was 81 years old.

Considine died Thursday at his home in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles, his son Christopher told The Hollywood Reporter. His death was also noted on Friday by the official Walt Disney fan club D23 and in a Facebook post by Stanley Livingston, who played son Chip in the series.

Livingstone called Considine "my lifelong friend and surrogate older brother".

"Tim went through his life! He will be missed by all who knew him," Livingstone posted.

Considine was born in Los Angeles into a show business family. His father, John Considine Jr., was an Academy Award-nominated filmmaker and his mother, Carmen, was the daughter of theater magnate Alexander Pentage.

Considine got her first film role in 1953 at the age of 12, appearing in "The Clown" opposite Red Skelton.

A few years later, he appeared on TV in "The Adventures of Spin and Marty" and "The Adventures of the Hardy Boys", a miniseries that aired on "The Mickey Mouse Club".

He appeared with Fred McMurray in the 1959 Disney film classic "The Shaggy Dog" and later starred with him in "My Three Sons" for five years before leaving the series

In 2006, Considine was named a Disney Legend in recognition of his contributions to the Disney Company.

Considine also appeared in other television series and films, perhaps most famously (but briefly) as a war-traumatized soldier who was portrayed as General George S. Patton was slapped.

A fan of auto racing, Considine has photographed and written about motor sports, producing several books.

Considine's brother, John, was also an actor and screenwriter, who had roles in several TV soap operas and who co-wrote and starred in the 1978 Robert Altman film "A Wedding".
