Storms cut power to thousands in Lehigh Valley

The severe storm that hit the area on Monday night after record-breaking temperatures cut power to 6,414 customers.

Strong thunderstorm warnings were issued in most areas on Monday night. Till 8:30 pm, there were several reports of trees and power lines falling due to strong winds in Leh Valley.

PPL reported 1,552 customers without electricity in Lehigh County and 2,070 without electricity in Northampton County. Met-Aid had 254 customers in Lehigh and 1,759 in Northampton.

The wind advisory was also in effect from early Tuesday. Southwest winds were predicted 20-30 mph, with gusts of 40-50 mph expected to move to the northwest on Monday evening.

The temperature record reached a record level of 72 degrees at 2 pm. at the airport, surpassing the previous record of 70 degrees on 7 March 2009.
