STARTING XIs: Hanley forced to miss City's crunch clash with Leeds

Norwich City captain Grant Hanley was left out of Norwich City's starting line-up in Leeds after testing positive for Covid-19, despite no legal requirement to isolate.

It is understood that City were informed by the Premier League that the Scotland defender could not play, bringing back Ben Gibson in the starting XI and taking the captain's armband.

After conceding two penalties in a painful 3-1 loss to Brentford last weekend, Gibson was relegated for Thursday's 3-1 home loss to Chelsea. He makes Ozan Kabak a partner in the central defense.

The other two changes include Milot Rashika and Lukas Rupp starting midweek after impressing as half-time substitutes, with Mathias Norman and Christoph Zimmermann going out.

Norman is on the bench but centre-back Zimmermann is not, with head coach Dean Smith referring to the German having an eye infection during his pre-match press conference.

It brings young central defender Jonathan Tomkinson to the bench, who played 90 minutes as the Under-23s pulled off a 2-1 win over Fulham in PL 2 on Friday night.

Full-back Sam Byram also missed again for the Canaries due to fatigue after returning from injury, and Ireland internationals Andrew Omobamidel (back) and Adam Idah (knee) remained out of contention.

Leeds striker Patrick Bamford was pushing to start after returning from injury during a 3-0 home loss to Aston Villa on Thursday, but England midfielder Calvin Phillips is not yet set to return from injury.

Bamford, who got an unsuccessful loan at Norwich in 2016, starts as one of three changes for the hosts.

He comes for Jack Harrison and Diego Llorente starts in the defense, Stuart Dallas Jr. goes to the left with an injury to Firpo.

Mateusz Klick also replaces Robin Koch in midfield, who moves to the bench with Harrison.

Leeds captain Liam Cooper (hamstring) was sidelined and forward Tyler Roberts also missed.

The match represented an opportunity for Norwich to put Leeds in trouble and rekindle their hopes of survival, but a win for the hosts would see the Canaries facing potential relegation with nine games to go.
