Skye Nicolson, Australian Olympian, Outpoints Jessica Juarez In Pro Debut On Chocolatito-Martinez Undercard

Skye Nicholson enjoyed many a first.

The 26-year-old southpaw - who represented Australia at last summer's Tokyo Olympics - won her pro debut at local level with a six-round, unanimous decision victory over Jessica Juarez (3-1, 1KO). Judges Chris Migliore (60-54), Alejandro Rochin (59-55) and David Solivan (60-54) scored every round for Nicholson in their featherweight bout at Pechanga Arena in San Diego on Saturday.

Using constant movement to give Juarez (3-1, 1KO) his footing and a chance to land any substance, a fast-paced encounter between the southpaw saw Nicholson (1-0, 0KOs) box Watched smartly. Whenever Juarez was able to go in, Nicholson was the first to punch on almost every exchange, purposefully chopping and landing his left hand.

Nicholson was in front of fans for the first time since March 2020 in Amman, Jordan, where she qualified for the delayed Tokyo Olympics. Nicholson told BoxingScene.com that he plans to fight six times in 2022, including at least one in his hometown of Queensland, Australia.

Nicholson advanced to the quarterfinal round of the featherweight bracket, losing to eventual silver medalist Caris Artingstall of Great Britain.

In the opening match of the night, Los Angeles native Anthony Herrera (2-0, 2KO) defeated San Diego's own Jose Torribo (7-5, 1KO) in the fourth and final round of his bantamweight contest. Herrera drew blood in round two, opening a cut on Toribo's right eye to take him out with a body shot to produce a full ten count at 0:24 of round four.

Both preliminary undercard bouts were broadcast on DAZN's Before the Bell series, which preceded the main card on DAZN. In the evening's main event, former four-division champion Roman 'Chocallito' Gonzalez (50-3, 41KOs) will face WBC flyweight titleist Julio Cesar 'El Rey' Martinez (18-1, 14KOs; 2ND), whose title bet. But is not.
