NY Giants free agency tracker: Keeping up with all the buzz, rumors, moves and deals

Attention veterans: Please report back to the discount rack to continue rebuilding.

General Manager Joe Shoen has promised that the new arrangement will be "very calculated" in its approach. This is certainly a tenet of their roster building philosophy, and how they believe the foundation of a successful team should be built.

The Giants really have no choice but to act that way this year, given the financial and salary cap mess Schoen has been forced to clean up as a cost of doing business within an organization that has Hit the reset button again.

Schoen's focus is on making the best of the roster, aiming to meet the anticipated $40 million target he wants to make available to continue rebuilding.

There will be no pretense, but the Giants are not expected to sit back and do nothing. Since the NFL's talk period opens at 12 noon on Mondays. And as the league continues through free agency at the start of the year and Wednesday at 4 p.m., there will be rumours, speculation and deals in that window.

We'll be keeping an eye on all Giants-related events, so check back often:

Michelle Trubisky would be a steeler

The Giants were interested in reuniting Mitchell Trubisky with Brian Dabol and Joe Schönen, but that didn't make much sense, and that's not happening anymore.

Trubisky will be moving to Pittsburgh, where he will be considered the favorite to start as a replacement for Ben Roethlisberger. The NFL Network says Trubisky and the Steelers have agreed a two-year deal, while the Giants -- also limited in their financials -- will only offer the opportunity to compete with Daniel Jones for the starting job.

The Giants are in the market for a quarterback to join Jones' back room and offer competition. Some possible fits include Raiders Marcus Mariota, The Chiefs' Chad Heaney, Dolphins Jacobi Brissette and Texan Tyrod Taylor.

Mariota will likely receive the most interest and the highest price tag, especially with speculation that the Colts may be targeting former Titans first-round selections.

The Bills release Daryl Williams

Daryl Williams has been a rumored target for the Giants for what seems like years now. Dave Gettleman drafted him to Carolina, and now Schoen, as Bills GM Brandon Bean's right hand, has intimate wit on Williams, who played right tackle and right guard at Buffalo.

The Giants don't have a starter pencil for either position right now, so there's certainly a chance they could take an interest in Williams, if the price is right. He started every game in the last two seasons.

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Williams and Bill will be in touch for a possible reunion. He was only set to make over $8 million this season. Can giants venture into that market? If Shawn and coach Brian Dabol like the player, of course.
