Gregg Popovich becomes winningest coach in NBA history, surpasses Don Nelson

San Antonio Spurs coach Greg Popovich surpassed Hall of Fame coach Don Nelson for the most regular-season victory by a coach in NBA history with San Antonio's 104-102 win over the Utah Jazz on Friday. He now has 1,336 regular-season victories, the most wins to date.

"It's a testament to a lot of people," Popovich said after the game. "Nothing like this belongs to one person. We all share in this record."

Popovich, 73, spent his entire 26-year head coaching career with the Spurs and led them to five NBA titles. He entered the season after just 25 wins, surpassing Nelson's record.

Popovich is the longest-serving NBA coach, starting with the Spurs in 1996, and has the most wins (regular season and playoffs combined) in NBA history. He had a winning record in each of his first 22 full seasons as head coach and claims a career regular-season win percentage of .658.

Popovich is a three-time NBA Coach of the Year and has coached the NBA All-Star Game four times. Outside the NBA, he played in the U.S. Coached the men's national team to a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
