Ferran Torres brace fires Barcelona to emphatic win over Osasuna

Ferran Torres scored two goals and Ousmane Dembele made two assists as Barcelona scored three goals in the opening 30 minutes to secure a 4-0 win over Osasuna at Camp Nou on Sunday.

As a result, Barcelona's fourth consecutive league win took them back to third place in LaLiga, above Atlético Madrid and Real Betis, as the Catalan's rapid resurgence under Xavi continued.

And brilliant performances, including goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and substitute Ricky Puig, added to a celebratory day at Camp Nou. The Barcelona women's team paraded the recently received Primera División trophy before kick-off and Gerard Pique took his place in the starting lineup for his 600th appearance for the club.

It was the perfect response, after Barcelona were disappointed with the first leg of Thursday's Europa League last 16 match going scoreless at home to Galatasaray.

Three days later, it took them just 14 minutes to break the deadlock. Midfielder Gavi created the opportunity as he was torn between defenders attempting to reach a ball in the box, but was bundled by Nacho Vidal, the first half for the Osasuna defender.

Referee Ricardo de Burgos had some hesitation to point Bengoetaxia to the penalty spot and Torres sent Osasuna goalkeeper Sergio Herrera the wrong way to get Barcelona on his way.

Exactly seven minutes later Barcelona and Torres took their second. Dembele took center stage this time, cutting inside on his left foot before threading an amazing through ball for Torres. Driving from the left bank, the former Manchester City forward calmly placed his shot through Herrera's legs.

"I'm really happy that we won and are moving forward," Torres later told reporters. "Our aim is to keep climbing the standings and improve game by game."

At this point, Barcelona's all-new attack was really resonating and after such a bleak start to the season, the Camp Nou crowd were thoroughly enjoying what they were seeing.

Barca's newest addition to the front line soon got in on the act. Again Dembele was the maker, placing him most on the right to send in a cross, which Aubameyang beat to spread his marker over a nearby post and find the net.

A flurry of goals from the first half allowed Barcelona to take their foot off the gas in the second half before a big week for the club. Following their return match against Galatasaray in mid-week, Barcelona will visit the Bernabeu next Sunday for a meeting with Clásico rivals and LaLiga leaders Real Madrid.

But he still delivered enough attacking thrust to give the home crowd one of the loudest cheers of the night. La Masia graduate Puig made the most of a few rare minutes off the bench to follow up his own saved shot before the goalkeeper scored, stabilizing himself and capping a perfect evening for Xavi's men. Still, when asked about the importance of Sunday's El Clasico, Xavi insisted that reducing Real Madrid's lead over Barcelona to 12 points is a long shot.

"I don't think the league is possible this season, Real Madrid are very much ahead," he said. "We need to keep winning and they have to lose three or four games, that's not realistic."
