Everton end Boreham Wood's fairytale run to reach FA Cup quarterfinals

Salomon Rondon scored twice as Premier League Everton built a heavy season after beating fifth-tier Boreham Wood 2-0 in their FA Cup fifth-round clash at rain-soaked Goodison Park on Thursday.

Everton, who will travel to Crystal Palace in the quarter-finals, replaced their Ukraine with Vitaly Mykolenko as captain and fielded a much changed team against the National League side. All four quarterfinals can be seen on ESPN+ in the US.

They were disappointed until the 57th minute, when Jonjo Kenny slipped in a low cross to score at Rondon's near post, and Venezuela netted their second late with a header.

Everton scored very few runs in the first half as their delivery from wide areas was poor. Mykolenko forced a fine save from Ty Ashby-Hammond in the Boreham Wood goal and the keeper had to block a curling effort from the excellent Anthony Gordon.

The home side was bright in the second half and Rondon had a simple lead from a Kenny delivery which he placed on the crossbar before the two players combined for the opening goal.

In the other quarter-finals, Liverpool travel to Nottingham Forest or Huddersfield Town and Chelsea go to giant-killers Middlesbrough. Southampton host Manchester City in All-Premier League clash
