The Packers cheered quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but the same couldn't be said for their star receiver Davante Adams.
The All-Pro wideout has informed the team that he will not play on the franchise tag (approximately $20 million), according to NFL Network—which explains that Adams' relationship with the Packers is "not in a great place."
The two sides are far from reaching an agreement on a long-term deal, after Adams completes four years, a $58 million extension in 2021.
The Packers have until 4 pm. ET will agree to the deal on July 15. If not, Adams will have to play on tag — or worst case, sit out the 2022 season.
Adams, 29, may be out of minicamp and training camp until the tender is signed.
Green Bay tagged Adams in before the March 8 deadline, as the two sides were unable to agree terms on a long-term deal.
Before the Packers called off Rodgers' return and tagged Adams, general manager Brian Gutkunst last month acknowledged the possibility that Adams could go into free agency — adding, "Everything is open at this point. "
Adams finished third in the NFL in receiving yards (1,553) and fifth in receiving touchdowns (11) last season.
Meanwhile, Rodgers is still working to reach a new deal with the Packers. The quarterback confirmed his return in a tweet on March 8, but said the reports about him signing a four-year $200 million contract are "false."
The two-time reigning NFL MVP apparently told his good friend and radio host Pat McAfee—who was the first to break news of his return—that he "wants his friends back" with him in Green Bay.
Rodgers has expressed how important his relationship with Adams is, both on and off the field.
