Tottenham crush Leeds to keep Champions League hopes alive

Win 4-0 and pile on the pressure on Argentine manager Bielsa

Leeds: Tottenham put a smile on Antonio Conte's face as they beat Leeds 4-0 today and put Marcelo Bielsa's side in trouble towards the leg of the Premier League.

The visitors, who had lost four of their last five league matches, were ahead 3–0 at half-time following goals from Matt Doherty, new recruit Dejan Kulusewski and Harry Kane.

Son Heung-min's late strike after a pinpoint pass from Kan completed the route on land Road.

The win moves Tottenham to seventh in the Premier League, four points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, as they bid to qualify for next season's Champions League.

Mid week loss

It also brightened the mood of Spurs boss Conte, who insisted on Friday he was committed to his job after comments following his midweek loss at Burnley cast doubt on his future at the club.

Leeds enjoyed massive possession in the first half and had an early chance to take the lead but Pascal Struijk's header was just wide.

Spurs took the lead in the 10th minute.

Harry Winks freed Ryan Sessegon on the left and his center was perfect for Doherty to reach the far post and slam home.

Five minutes later it was 2-0. Kulusevski was in no danger when he had a ball off the corner flag, but he swung freely, exchanged a pass with Doherty and defeated Ilan Meslier at his close position.

Defender Robin Koch hits the post with a left footed shot from the center of the box, then the home side comes very close.

But Spurs, looking sharp at the break, were up 3-0 in the 27th when Kane passed the ball into the net from a tight angle after a delightful ball over the top from Pierre-mile Hojberg.

Tottenham were again the more dangerous side after the break and went close to extending their lead on several occasions.

Leeds should have retreated once with almost 15 minutes to go when Hugo Lloris ran out of his goal but inflated his approval.

Stuart Dallas dribbled toward an open goal but it took too long and his final shot was blocked.

Son finished smartly in the 85th minute after a pin-point pass from Kane to make it 4-0.

This meant that Kane and Son combined for the 37th Premier League goal, overtaking Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard of Chelsea, who have assisted each other for the most goals in the history of the competition.

Attacking Gameplan

Leeds, in their second season in the Premier League, are three points above the relegation zone, having played more games than all but one of the teams below them.

Argentine manager Bielsa sticks to his aggressive game plan, but time is running out for his team, who have scored 60 goals in the league this season.

Leeds has also suffered costly injuries.

England midfielder Calvin Phillips and centre-back Liam Cooper have both been sidelined for a long time, while forward Patrick Bamford has played only one game since September.
