Soucek seals vital win for West Ham over Wolves

Tomas Sousek's second-half goal revived West Ham United's hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League on Sunday with a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

It did not qualify more than West Ham as they created better chances from Wolves' side which went into the mix for European qualification.

Declan Rice's curling effort against the post was the closest for West Ham to take the lead before half time. But they eventually broke up when Sousek poked home from close range from Michael Antonio Cross.

Wolves, who lost twice late to a 2-1 loss to Arsenal on Thursday, had plenty of possession but were unable to seriously test home keeper Lukasz Fabianski.

West Ham climbed to fifth place with 45 points from 27 games, above Arsenal on goal difference and two behind fourth-placed Manchester United. However, sixth-placed Arsenal have three games just above both sides. Wolves are in eighth place with 40 points.

It was a sloppy goal that broke the deadlock but West Ham didn't care. "We created a lot of opportunities, could go up two or three at a time. Wolves didn't score that many goals," West Ham manager David Moyes said.
