Slack is back online after an outage cut many users off

Slack was facing some issues on Tuesday, making it difficult for users to send and receive messages as well as fully access the platform. On social media, users have complained that they faced long load times and inability to view threads while trying to access work-related chat rooms.

The Slack Status Twitter account eventually acknowledged the platform's loading issues. “Some customer[s] may be experiencing problems loading Slack,” Slack wrote. As of 2:24PM ET, Slack's status page reports that the problem is resolved, and anyone still having problems should be able to connect by refreshing the app.

The issue was widespread, with many users complaining on Twitter and a massive increase in issues noted on Down Detector, however, some people were still able to connect and send messages reliably.

"Our teams are aware of this issue and are investigating," Slack spokesman Sean Mills said in an emailed statement to The Verge.

The good news so far is that, unlike 2021, Slack has waited until February for the first major outage of the year. Last year, January 4 faced problems, cutting off people trying to connect to work remotely. Now, more employees are back in the offices, but clearly, the demand for Slack's service is still high. Now that Slack is working again, The Verge team (and every other newsroom full of writers who are suddenly alone again) can stop figuring out how to use threading in Discord.
