Liverpool's quadruple chase in 2021-22: How Reds can one-up Manchester United's treble

Liverpool are still chasing history in 2021-22, seeking an unprecedented quadruple title. The Reds are battling on four competitive fronts: the English Premier League, the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup (League Cup).

Jurgen Klopp's team has four chances to lift silverware with the Carabao Cup final on February 27. If the Reds can manage all four, they will be the first England men's team to win three major home trophies and a European crown.

Manchester City had their quadruple in 2018–2019, which included the Community Shield, but were not champions of Europe; Manchester United won the Champions League in 1998–1999 and the FA Cup in addition to the Premier League, but they were eliminated in the fifth round of the League Cup and never reached the four trophies.

Outside England, German side Bayern Munich won four trophies in 2012–2013, including the Champions League - but also included a one-time DFL-Supercup (equivalent to the Community Shield).

Spanning more than half a century, Celtic's famed Lisbon Lions won five trophies in one season, including the then European Cup, as well as the Scottish title, the Scottish Cup, the Scottish League Cup and the local Glasgow Cup.

Here is where Liverpool stand in each of the four competitions they have been involved in:

UEFA Champions League

Seven matches played, seven matches won - Liverpool's 2021-2022 Champions League campaign couldn't have started better.

Klopp's men won all six group-stage matches in what many believed was the toughest group in the Champions League. Those victories against AC Milan, Porto and Atlético Madrid came at home and away, seeing the Reds safely through the knockout stages with an average of one goal per match – compared to a score of 2.84.

Liverpool then started the Round of 16 with an impressive 2–0 result over Italian champions Inter Milan, setting themselves up for a possible place in the last eight of the competition.

Carabao Cup

Liverpool can take their first trophy of the season in the Carabao Cup final on 27 February. Only then will the Reds face Chelsea at Wembley (11.30 a.m. ET kickoff).

If Liverpool wins, it will be the club's ninth win in the competition – and a record. Currently, Liverpool and Manchester City share the most trophies with eight wins each.

FA Cup

Liverpool's next challenge in this competition comes with an FA Cup fifth-round match against Norwich City on Wednesday, March 2 (kickoff at 3.15pm ET).

The Canaries have been struggling in the Premier League this season, currently sitting third from the bottom with a huge negative goal difference of -36 and Klopp's side will not be particularly intimidated at home.

Back in August in the league against Norwich, the Reds won 3–0 at Carrow Road and then the following month in the Carabao Cup, with Liverpool repeating the feat by the same scoreline at the same venue.

Premier League

It may be the most unlikely part of the 2021-22 quadruple challenge, but the Reds are the best place to cash in should league leaders Manchester City slip away at all.

Liverpool are currently in second place with one game left, although are currently nine points behind City.
