There was a power outage in central, western and southern areas of Mumbai this morning, affecting local train services, considered the city's lifeline. This is the first major power outage in India's financial capital since October 2020. Officials said the grid failure caused power outages in most parts of the city.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) tweeted around 10 am and said, "Due to some technical issue, power supply has stalled in many parts of the city. All transmission lines restored

About an hour later, the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL) said that all transmission lines have been restored. Tata Power Supply reported failure between 9:50 am to 10:53 am. Power cut due to technical fault. "Due to the tripping of the MSEB 220 kV transmission line on Mulund-Trombay, power supply was affected in most parts of Mumbai, as reported by the Head of Electric Supply Division of BEST," the civic body said.

Train services were disrupted between 9 am and 10 am

Interruptions in train services were reported between 9 am and 10 am. There was disruption from Churchgate to Vile Parle railway stations at around 10:40 am, Western Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer Sumit Thakur said in a statement. The overhead system has been restored, the restoration of the signaling system is underway.

Now trains are running in all the corridors

Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Shivaji Sutar said around 10.30 am that trains were running in all the corridors. "The power supply on Harbor Railway line and Main line between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT)-Kalyan at 9.49-9.52 am was momentarily suspended," he said.
