Alan Shearer says Liverpool have an 'exceptional' 23-year-old in their ranks

Alan Shearer has waxed lyrical about Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, deeming him "extraordinary".

The 23-year-old is one of the best right-backs in world football.

Alexander-Arnold has already made over 200 competitive raid appearances.

In addition, they have won the Premier League, Champions League, UEFA Supercup and Club World Cup.

Alexander-Arnold has also won 16 caps for England, although he missed Euro 2020 due to injury.

This season, the Liverpool Academy graduate has made 16 assists from 30 competitive Reds appearances.

"Too many licenses to go on"

Shearer named Alexander-Arnold to his latest Rising Stars watchlist, speaking on Rising Stars on the Premier League's YouTube channel.

"He is already in double digits for an average every two games this season and he creates a chance every 30 minutes," said the Premier League legend.

"Impressive stats for a defender.

"He has a lot of license to move under Jurgen Klopp ... his vision with the ability to take passes is extraordinary."

Alexander-Arnold is likely to start for Liverpool against Chelsea in Sunday's Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds are still in contention for all four trophies this season.

Liverpool are still in the running for the Premier League, as well as two domestic cups and the Champions League.

"He's getting better and better"

Speaking to Amazon Prime after Liverpool's 4-1 win over Everton in December, Andrew Robertson praised Alexander-Arnold.

"Trent is an incredible footballer and he keeps getting better and better," said Robertson.

"If I can be a small part of his progress, I will be him because I push him and I want him to get better."
