Life can come to you fast.
Last week, Chase Seifert was first option in the Corn Ferry Tour's LECOM Suncoast Classic, but he never got the call that he made it to the eventing arena. So instead, he spent the week practicing and it seems to be paying off in the Honda Classic.
After last week, the 30-year-old tried three hours for the Atlantic coast in Florida and qualified for Honda on Monday. Seifert lost in a 16-for-1 playoff in the third and final place of the tournament, but his disappointment did not last long as Tyler Duncan withdrew shortly thereafter.
"As soon as we finished the playoffs, I came here to practice and I got a call saying I was in," Seifert said on Friday. "So it was really a relief, a load off my shoulders that I didn't get from the playoffs, but was able to participate in the event."
Through two rounds at the PGA Nationals, the world number 385 is doing more than just sprinting to his 57th Tour debut. After a second-round 66, he sits T-6 at 5 under, five shots away from Daniel Berger's lead. It's the same event he took a year earlier for his first and - so far - only top-3 finish on the Tour.
"I've had great success at [Jack] Nicklaus' all golf courses," he said, even throughout his amateur career. For some reason, their courses look good in my eyes."
The former two-time All-ACC FSU Seminole claimed conditional status for the second consecutive year on the PGA Tour by finishing 138th in the FedExCup standings last year, thanks largely to his T-3 in the Honda Classic. This season, during four starts, he has missed two cuts and his best performance is T-22 in Bermuda.
Another good finish at the PGA Nationals will help Seifert improve his position for next season. And once he hits the ground running, he's hoping he won't have to worry about trying Monday — or at any other event — in the future.
"We were preparing as if we were going to go in, because the first option was almost always going to be found early in the week, especially in a place like this," he said. "So we were preparing as if we were about to move in and luckily we did, so instead of worry it was good to flip to excitement and get ready for the week, get ready to go."
