2 Black Hawk helicopters crash during training accident, Utah National Guard says

Two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters of the Utah National Guard were involved in a training accident Tuesday morning that crashed near a popular ski resort, the Utah National Guard said.

No crew members or skiers were injured at Snowbird ski resort, according to Utah National Guard Chief Warrant Officer 5 Jared Jones.

"Everyone is safe," Jones said. "It was a blessing that everyone was fine."

The accident occurred near Snowbird's Mineral Basin area, "about 150 yards from Snowbird," Jones said.

According to Snowbird's website, the resort, about 30 miles from Salt Lake City, has the capacity to carry more than 17,000 skiers and snowboarders upwards of hours per hour.

The Utah National Guard said in a tweet that both helicopters suffered some damage as a result of the crash.

"As the first plane landed ... the blade portions of the lead helicopter detached and appeared to have collided with the second helicopter," Jones said.

The accident is under investigation.
