What Kit Harington Has Said About the Future of His 'Eternals' Character Dane Whitman

Eternals is now on Disney+, which means those who didn't see the two post-credits scenes from the Marvel movie in theaters are now getting to see them. This means that some fans are only discovering what the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has planned for Dan Whitman (played by Kit Harington).

In the second of these two post-credits scenes, Whitman visits a family member's house with an old box. There is a plaque on the box that reads "Death is my reward," which indicates that the box will not be filled with family photos and old kitchen appliances.

And so it is proved. Inside that box is a magical looking black sword. As Whitman looks at it, we hear a voice saying, "Surely you're up for that Mr. Whitman" before the scene ends.

This eternal scene sets up Whitman as the Black Knight, a superhero who wields this mighty but cursed ebony blade. And in interviews, Harington has hinted whether he will return in future films.

What did Kit Harington say about his future in the MCU?

In an interview with Inverse, Harington revealed that Marvel had hinted to him that the character might return. The Game of Thrones actor told the outlet: "I know at the end of the movie we see him finding his sword. So we believe that's going to come into play. As far as the future goes. , [Marvel said] For me, it could be a continuation. That's all I had to hear."

Unsurprisingly, several other outlets had questions for Harington about what his superhero future might hold.

In a Gamesradar interview, he said that Marvel impresario Kevin Feige has wanted Harrington in the MCU for a few years. He said: "I had a meeting with Kevin a few years before I got the call about this part. It was more a conversation about [how] we're starting this new phase and we've got to [be] you. Might be interested in this. That was a really nice meeting."

However, it looks like the actor may only have a little more information about his future in the MCU than the average fan. He added to Gamesradar that the Marvel bosses told him: "Google this character, have a look, see what you think. If it does, great — but you're the thing in this movie."

Of course, Harington can be berserk — especially since Marvel hasn't actually announced a project starring the Black Knight. However, the post-credits scene gives us a hint of exactly where he might be headed in this phase or the next phase of the MCU.

This could mean that Harrington is set to appear in the Blade film, which currently does not have a release date but is reported to begin filming in July 2022. Alternatively, some fans have assumed that both Blade and the Black Knight may have been part of Midnight Sons, the team assembled in the comics by Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) due to their shared magical abilities.

As Doctor Strange has a movie coming out this year, we only have a few months before we find out whether the pair will appear in a sequel or before we have Ali (and possibly Harington) back again. Have a few years to wait. A Marvel movie.
