Players keen to tour Pakistan: Cummins

Pat Cummins believes the majority of Australia's Test squad will travel to Pakistan, but the captain is fully aware of what happens if a teammate falls out of the tour.

Cricket Australia (CA) is yet to pressurize the players for a final decision regarding the multi-format series in Pakistan, which is set to begin with a Test in Karachi on March 3.

But the selectors have started thwarting plans for a busy few months when Australia's white-ball series against New Zealand and Sri Lanka will be followed by a tour of Pakistan and then the IPL.

Players and staff are given preliminary information about security measures in Pakistan ahead of Australia's first tour of the nation since 1998.

"There's still a little work to be done but at this stage it all looks really positive," Cummins said.

"The amount of work that the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) has put into this is fantastic.

"It's taking shape, I think just about everyone - if not all - will go.

"If some players need to make a choice, it's perfectly fine that they won't be there.

"There's still a little bit of water to go under the bridge, a little more to gather information and reach everyone."

In February, Australia's best players will be divided into a white-ball team at home and a Test touring party in Pakistan.

Cummins is concerned about bubble fatigue, knowing freedom for players will likely remain restricted due to COVID-19.

"We're in two years, so we've learned a lot," he said.

"But it also means that maybe some players are ahead with their strings.

"These are unprecedented times, we just have to make sure we take care of each other.

"Talks are taking place. The selectors have been very good with the coaching staff."

This summer marks the first time Cummins has donned the baggy green after losing to India a year ago, as it marks the first five-Test series during the COVID-19 era.

Cummins said he doubted whether the rivals would get the five Tests, especially after Travis Head contracted the coronavirus.

"And all I know in Sydney is about COVID," Cummins said.

“We have been tested almost every day for the last 20 days.

"It's been fantastic that we've gotten through the series."
