Liverpool beat Arsenal on Diogo Jota's brace, to face Chelsea in Carabao Cup final

The Diogo Jota brace proved the difference between Liverpool and Arsenal as Jurgen Klopp's men secured a 2-0 win at the Emirates on Thursday to advance to the final of the Carabao Cup.

The win ensures that Liverpool will face Chelsea in the final at Wembley on 27 February.

With both sides playing a 0-0 draw at Anfield in the first leg, the Gunners and the Reds had everything to play for.

The odds were stacked against Mikel Arteta's side, who scored 43 goals in 16 games against Liverpool in all competitions since Klopp took control. However, the home team got off to a brisk start. Bukayo Saka wins an early free kick right outside the box and Alexandre Lacazette hits the post with his shot.

Liverpool had a few chances to raise the pitch in the first half but when they did, they took advantage of the opportunity. He conceded a goal in 13 minutes when Joel Matip was deemed offside, leading the ball past Aaron Ramsdale.

It didn't take long for Liverpool to gain the lead, however, with Jota being placed too high in 19 minutes by the Arsenal defence. He was able to find an angle to himself from just outside the penalty box and kick the ball into the net.

The home side appeared to be losing their grip on the match as the impressive press slowly waned at the start of the half. Lacazette had a golden opportunity to level the sides at the start of the first half, but with Kaomahin defeating Kelleher, he sent his shot high and over the bar.

Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered a cross in the box when Liverpool nearly doubled their lead at the hour mark.

Ibrahima Konate's header hits the woodwork before Ramsdale scrambles to save Jordan Henderson's rebound shot. However, it was Jota, the opening goalscorer, who eventually handed Liverpool their second after a lengthy VAR review.

He overtook Ben White and stuck the ball over Ramsdale on 77 minutes to secure Liverpool's win. Gol is fifth and sixth against Arsenal in all competitions since Jota joined Liverpool.

Arsenal were reduced to 10 in 89 minutes when Thomas Partey - who had just returned from Africa Cup of Nations duty earlier in the day - received a second yellow card within three minutes of his first. He came on as a substitute for Emil Smith-Roe on just 74 minutes.

Klopp later praised Jota and his goal-scoring skills.

"The quality is why we signed him because of the way we played at Wolves," Klopp said after the match. "He had to defend, the runs he had to score, but still he was able to produce some exciting things." He just didn't move tonight. Yes, he scored two goals but he is incredibly important to us.

"The mix of his skills is incredibly exciting."

Arteta regretted the loss after a strong start to the match.

"It's disappointing because obviously you have that excitement when you have the last one game away," Arteta told a news conference after the game. "We did everything we could to put out a competitive team.

"They [Liverpool] have the quality of finishing the game.

"You have to have a squad of 22, 23 top outfield players and that takes time."
