Pittsburgh Panthers quarterback Nick Patti exits Peach Bowl against Michigan State Spartans with broken collarbone

Pittsburgh quarterback Nick Patti broke his collarbone during the first quarter of the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl against Michigan State on Thursday night.

Coach Pat Narduzzi said after the Panthers' 31-21 loss that the bandage would be surgery.

With 7:57 left in the quarter, Patti ran for 16 yards and dove for the pylon to tie the game 7-7. After the bandage went back to shore, he was escorted to the locker room by Pitt's medical staff. He later reappeared on the shore with his jersey off, headset on and his left hand in a sling.

Patti completed 2 of 5 passes for 21 yards, as well as three rushing attempts for 27 yards and a touchdown.

Davis Beville, a sophomore who had only thrown four passes earlier this season, replaced Patti at quarterback for the Panthers.

Patti got the start for Pitt after Heisman Trophy finalist Kenny Pickett announced on December 16 that he was pulling out of a bowl game to prepare for the NFL Draft. Pickett finished the season with 4,319 yards, 42 touchdowns and seven interceptions, earning Pitt his first ACC Championship.
