Gary Neville described Manchester United players as "wingbags" and criticized Cristiano Ronaldo for failing to applaud the club's supporters, while interim manager Ralph Rangnick said that his players included 1-1 at Newcastle. There was a lack of aggression during the draw.
Edinson Cavani's second-half equalizer saved a point for United against relegation-threatened Newcastle, who scored the first through Alan Saint-Maximin.
United produced one of their worst performances of a disappointing season, however, prompting former club captain Neville to condemn his performance in his role as a pundit for Sky Sports.
"They're a bunch of whiningbags, their arms were up in the air," Neville said. “He got the previous manager sacked and a lot of managers would get that kind of sack [game].”
Neville also took aim at Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes after the pair left the pitch and headed for the tunnel shortly after the final whistle.
"I think there's something wrong there," he said. "You can't run off the pitch at the end of the game and you have to clap the fans.
"It's devastating for young players if two of the best players on the team are making others look like you're not good enough."
Rangnik, who extended his unbeaten start as interim manager to four matches, was also not impressed with his team's performance.
"I didn't like the performance at all," he said. "Today we didn't control the game except for a few moments. It's about energy, physicality and who wins the second ball.
"We weren't doing our best in all those areas. The good thing is we got a point but the performance should be better."
Rangnik, who replaced sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earlier this month, criticized United's lack of aggression against Eddie Howe's side.
"You have to be ready and able to win those direct doubles and that didn't happen very often," Rangnik said. "Today was not a question of body language, it was a question of physical physicality.
"If you want to be competitive here you have to get down physically and that was not the case in many parts of the game. Today it was not a question of formation - it was a question of how aggressive we were.
"We have the next game in three days. We can do better but we have to. We shouldn't be looking for excuses - we need to get better and be more physical.
"I wasn't happy with our performance with the ball or when we had to press. What kind of energy modes do we play with the ball and without the ball?"
The result left Old Trafford in seventh place with 28 points from 17 matches, behind sixth-placed West Ham on goal difference, while Newcastle finished in 19th place with 11 points from 19 matches.
