The regulated platform in question was the Octagon at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where on March 5 Covington dominated Masvidal in an unequal battle that culminated in the two former best friends becoming bitter enemies.

"I was different from wrestling. I needed to wrestle more," Masvidal told Joe Rogan after the fight, according to MMA Junkie. "I didn't wrestle today. I was flat."

Speaking in the Octagon moments after the winner was named, Covington made a derogatory talk about Masvidal targeting Dustin Poirier.

"I just took care of the Miami street trash," Covington said of his two former U.S. top teammates. It's time to take care of the Louisiana swamp garbage.

According to ESPN, Masvidal and Covington became close friends more than a decade ago, as they bonded over their love of training and poker. The outlet reports that the fighters once even shared an apartment.

The pair reportedly split due to several incidents and disagreements, with the pair publicly expressing their distaste for each other in recent years.
