If your brain has the potential to consume anything other than Chris Rock slapping Will Smith at the 2022 Oscars, you'll love to know that Death on the Nile is now streaming on HBO Max and for all subscribers. Streaming on Hulu for free.
20th Century Fox's murder mystery film opened in theaters just over a month ago. It's unusual for a movie to debut on two streaming services at the same time shortly after its release, but that's because of a deal between HBO and Disney. Even though 20th Century Fox is now owned by Disney, Disney is still bound by a 10-year deal between 20th Century Fox and HBO that was signed in 2012. The deal runs through 2022, so HBO/HBO Max recently agreed to a co-sharing. Exclusive rights with Disney. (Hulu is also owned by Disney, and there's no doubt that Disney's family-friendly streamer was a more suitable streaming home for PG-13 thrillers than Disney+.)
As of Tuesday, March 29, Death on the Nile is also available for purchase on digital platforms like Amazon for $19.99. The film will release on April 5 in 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD.
This is all to say: Sunday night, you saw Kenneth Branagh win an Oscar for his coming-of-age drama Belfast, and now today you can see him as world-renowned private detective Hercule Poirot, in this thriller based on 1937 Agatha The novel of the same name by Christie. Branagh, who also directed the film, is reprising his role from the first film, 2017's Murder on the Orient Express. His on-screen crime solving partner Bock, played by Tom Bateman, is also back.
But otherwise, there's a new murder mystery starring Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Ali Fazal, Don French, Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Rose Leslie, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Jennifer Saunders, and Letitia Wright with a new cast of characters. This time, the setting is a cruise ship, and the murder is that of a wealthy heiress whose precious necklace has been stolen. Someone aboard the boat is responsible... but who?
You'll have to stream Death on the Nile on Hulu or HBO Max to find out.
