March 1 (Reuters) - Tottenham Hotspur face the FA Cup at the hands of Championship Middlesbrough on Tuesday, losing 1-0 after extra time in the fifth round to Chris Wilder's side at Riverside Stadium.
Premier League leaders Manchester City and Crystal Palace both defeated lower division opponents to take their places in the quarter-finals.
Josh Coburn scored the deciding goal in the 107th minute as Middlesbrough missed another night after beating Manchester United in the previous round.
It was another blow for Tottenham manager Antonio Conte, who questioned his future after a 1-0 loss to Burnley in the Premier League last week.
Conte fielded in full force, sticking with the starting eleven, which led to a 4-0 win over Leeds United in the league on Saturday, but Middlesbrough was well worth the win.
"This loss hurts me, my players and everyone who works at Tottenham," the Italian said.
"I think we've lost a big opportunity here. When you're playing against a team that's played in the Premier League, you have to hit your opponent as a game.
"You give them confidence when you don't grab the opportunities you've created. They deserved to go to the next round and be praised," he added.
Wilder, whose team is ranked eighth in the championship, credited fans for creating an upbeat atmosphere.
"The supporters gave us the energy to perform at the top," he said.
"We are happy in the next round, I would love it to be a home tie. A big reward for everyone who follows this club."
"We want to make memories. We had one at Old Trafford and I believe we have one at our own stadium, which is fantastic."
Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish were on target as Premier League leaders Manchester City beat championship strugglers Peterborough United 2-0.
City struggled to break through to the bottom club of the second tier until Mahrez carried them on the hour, cutting to the right and drilling a left-footed shot into the far corner.
Pep Guardiola's side doubled their lead with a prime quality goal - Phil Foden hit a ball from deep which Grealish brought down with a sublime touch before the clinical finish for his first goal in the FA Cup.
"We are in the next round and in the end, the quality of our players made the difference," said Guardiola, praising his forward's finishing.
"Riyadh always had this quality in the last third - he is the best we have. He scored a great goal. Proud of the game he played.
"The pass from Phil (for the Grealish goal) was excellent - the control from Jack was excellent. He was aggressive in the last third and has come back from injury and played a really good level," said the Spaniard.
Crystal Palace are also in the last eight when Jairo Riedewald took home the 82nd-minute winner to second-tier Stoke City.
Stoke's Josh Tymons had canceled Chekhou Kouyte's 53rd-minute opener for Palace before Riedewald hit it.
