NM State finished the season, 54–65, after falling to seventh-seeded Lamar in the opening round of the 2022 WAC Tournament at the Michelob Ultra Arena inside Mandalay Bay.
From an individual standpoint, second-team All-WAC honoree Big Sarr led with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Meanwhile, junior Sofia Inousa also scored eight points and a pair of boards. Jade Bradley and Molly Kaiser finished with seven points each and finished third on the team in points.
The Aggies put on one of their most captivating performances on Glass all year, as they pulled down 24 offensive rebounds; He scored 24 offensive rebounds only once this season. Despite creating so many second-chance opportunities, the Aggies finished the game with only 15 second-chance points. Surprisingly, he was given the best in the rebound category as Lamar took 43 - two more than the Aggies 41.
Lamar was led by Angel Hastings, who scored a career-high 25 points to lead the Cardinals to victory. Portia Adams was also the top scorer as she racked up 14 points in 28 minutes adding six rebounds.
First quarter
• After both sides combined for four vacant possessions, Soufia Inousa was able to get Aggie on board after collecting an offensive rebound.
• Inousa would score four of the first six Aggie points as she also went down a pair from the free-throw line with 7:14 remaining to give the Aggies a 6-5 lead.
• Making the free throw will be an area the Aggies will struggle with in the opening round of the game as they finished the 7-for-17 contest with Charity Stripe. Meanwhile, Lamar connected on 21 of his 22 free-throw attempts after shooting just 66.5 percent in the year.
• Later in the quarter, Jade Bradley would get his third and fourth points of the afternoon as he got a lap to fall through contact that drew a foul.
• Molly Kaiser added her first point of the game when she scored the final point of the quarter at 14 with 52 seconds left in the quarter.
Second quarter
• Mel Isbell entered the game in the second quarter and made an immediate impact, hitting a three-pointer to start the scoring in the second period. It would be the Aggies' lone triple of the evening as NM State finished the game 1-of-11 deep.
• Kaiser would then score with a 7:06 in the quarter to help the Aggies lead 7-0 with Kaiser's points in the first quarter.
• Lamar's Hastings eventually halted the Eggie run as she would down three free throws after drawing a foul from outside the arc. This would set the score at 19-17 in favor of the Aggies with 6:44 remaining.
• After Big Sir scored in the first 20 minutes with only 16 seconds remaining, the two sides would exchange each other for the remainder of the quarter.
• Overall, the Aggies would limit the Cardinals to only 25 percent from a three-point land, while outscoring Lamar 18-6 in the paint.
Third quarter
• Jade Bradley scored the first point for any team when she seemed to be stuck on the right block and cleared her way to score on her right shoulder.
• The Cardinals had an extension of play from 7:02 on the clock to 3:14, and this was really the only point where Lamar made the separation. During that stretch, Lamar scored 10-2 to take an eight-point lead.
• Shania Harper created a spark from the bench during the final two minutes of the quarter as she made a steal and scored four points, two from an offensive rebound. However, Lamar continued to score at the same pace as the Eggies during the rest of the quarter as they were able to take an 11-point lead in the final quarter.
Fourth quarter
• Despite the Aggies getting four opening points thanks to Sufia Inousa and Big Sarr, the Cardinals' Hastings was able to commit enough offense to help their team maintain a 13-point lead with 4:22, as Senior took the lead. Three triples were knocked down to score all. Nine points from Lamar's fourth quarter to that point.
• The final Hastings three were left in a lap of 3:24 before Taylor Donaldson's lay-up, however, the Aggies would go on to see a 15-point deficit late in the game without a score in the next two minutes.
• Grace Colavellu saw her first action of the night in the final minutes and would serve as the sole source of offensive production for the Eggies at the end of the game. Senior scored the last six points of the Aggies going for three-three off the field.
To wrap things up
• A loss in the WAC tournament ended the 2021–22 season of the Aggies as they went 6–10 in conference play to finish with an overall record of 10–19.
