Yelemzarf Yehualo broke the women's 10 kilometer road world record by clocking a previous best time of 24 seconds on the roads of Castellón in Spain.
The 22-year-old Ethiopian set an extraordinary time of 29:14, surpassing compatriot Kalkidan Gezahagen's 29:38.
The mark, scheduled for October 3 last year in Geneva, is still awaiting ratification.
"Today a dream came true," said Yehulav.
"I felt really good in the race, the first 5km was very fast, I struggled a bit in the second 5km but I was still able to maintain a high speed.
"I'm so happy with this record!
"I want to thank the race organizers for this wonderful opportunity."
Yehualo's notable achievement was running in the World Athletics Label race.
After securing bronze at the 2020 World Half Marathon Championships in Gdynia, Poland, she became the second-fastest woman in the half-marathon distance in 2021.
In the Valencia Half Marathon, Yehualo's time of 1 hour 3 minutes 51 seconds was 51 seconds slower than fellow Ethiopian Letesenbet Gidi's new world record.
Giddy won the race in 1:02:52, which was a shadow of Yehuala's time.
Yehualo is a member of the NN Running Team, a group that includes some of the most accomplished distance runners in the world, including Gidi and back-to-back Olympic men's marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya.
