The Mighty Mighty Bosstones Break Up

Mighty Mighty Bosstones are falling apart. "After decades of fraternizing, touring the world and making great records together, we have decided not to continue as a band," the ska group wrote in a statement. "Above all, we want to express our gratitude to each and every one of you who have supported us. We couldn't have done any of this without you."

Lead singer Dickie Barrett founded Mighty Mighty Boston in the 1980s with saxophonist Tim "Johnny Vegas" Burton, guitarist Nate Albert, drummer Josh Dulcimer, trumpeter Tim Bridwell and Ben Carr. The band released their first, Devil's Night Out, in 1989 through Tang! record. The Bosstones signed to major label Mercury Records in the early 90s, releasing their Don't Know How to Party in May 1993. The group's most successful album, Let's Face It, came in 1997, peaking at number 27 on Billboard. 200 and earned Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. The record also included the most notable single from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, "The Impression That I Get", which has been certified gold by the RIAA.

Nate Albert left Mighty Mighty Boston in 2000. Two years later, the group released A Jackknife to a Swan, their final album before a hiatus that lasted from 2004 to 2007. The group's first album from their break was 2009's Pin Points & Gin. Joint.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones released their final studio album, When God Was Great, in May 2021 through Hellcat Records. The band's final lineup consisted of four founding members: Dickie Barrett, Tim "Johnny Vegas" Burton, Ben Carr and Joe Gittleman.
