Big Daddy Weave bassist Jay Weaver dies of COVID-19 complications

Jay Weaver, co-founding member and bassist of contemporary Christian band Big Daddy Weave, died on Sunday due to complications from COVID-19.

The band's label, Nashville-based Curb Records, confirmed Weaver's death in a statement Monday morning. He was 42 years old.

"We are devastated by this loss and are counting on God to guide us through this difficult time," the statement said. "All your thoughts, prayers and support are deeply appreciated and continue to be."

According to the band on Twitter, Weaver entered hospital care in late December due to complications from the virus. According to Big Daddy Weave, last August, Weaver left the road after a period of intensive care stemming from dialysis treatment.

"I'm so sorry to bring this news, but I'm so excited to celebrate where he is now," the band's co-founder brother Mike Weaver shared via Facebook on Sunday. "My brother Jay went to live with Jesus just a few hours ago."

Mike Weaver continued, "You guys have helped take him so far. And I'm telling you, God used him in such a powerful way. Been out on the street for so many years. And whoever his Comes in contact He knows how genuine his faith in Jesus was. I believe that even though COVID took his last breath, Jesus was there to hold him. I know he is seeing things now are the ones I want to see. My heart is broken."

Big Daddy Weave was launched in 1998 from Mobile, Alabama. Jay Weaver lives with his family in Navarre, Florida, while the rest of Big Daddy Weave calls Middle Tennessee home.

The group has sent a few singles to #1 on the contemporary Christian radio charts, including "Every Time I Breathe," "My Story," "I Know" and "Redeed."

The leaders in the format mourned the loss of the band after Mike Weaver confirmed the death of his brother.

Christian radio platform K-Love shared via social media: "Please join us as we pray for Jay's wife, three children and the Weaver family."

"We pray for comfort for his family, but we are glad to know that he is healthy again with his late father," the Dove Awards said late Sunday.

Jay Weaver is survived by his wife Emily Weaver and three children, Mackenzie, Madison and Nathan Weaver.
