A joint team of Income Tax Department and Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) raided the house of a perfume trader in Kanpur and found Rs 150 crore in cash. The raids that started on Thursday lasted for 24 hours.
The team recovered the notes kept on the shelves in the cupboard of perfume trader Piyush Jain's house in Kanpur. Initially, the team started counting money manually, but after several hours, a counting machine had to be brought in due to the huge amount of money.
Piyush Jain does his business in Ittarwali Gali, Kanpur, which is known for its perfume business. They have offices in Kannauj, Kanpur and Mumbai. The Income Tax Department has got about 40 companies through which Jain used to do business.
Most of the pan masala manufacturing units in Kanpur are running on the land purchased from them. This is the reason why Piyush Jain moved from Kannauj to Kanpur and started living in Anandpuri's house.
